Kim Carter PatersonOf Counsel

Kim Carter Paterson joined Russell, Krafft & Gruber, LLP in 2018 after practicing with the Lancaster firm of Blakinger Thomas where she began her career as a summer law clerk. She is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College and The Dickinson School of Law of the Pennsylvania State University.     

Kim enjoys working closely with her clients and their families to develop and implement estate plans that are tailored to their unique needs.  Whether a client needs a simple will or complex asset protection trust, she treats each client with the same respect and attention to detail.  She uses the same approach when advising executors and trustees throughout the estate and trust administration processes. Kim represents clients in Orphans’ Court proceedings, such as guardianship actions for the appointment of guardians for incapacitated persons and minors, spousal elections, and fiduciary accountings and adjudications. She also works extensively with families of disabled individuals to establish special needs trusts to protect eligibility for governmental assistance benefits, such as SSI and Medicaid.

Kim is well-versed in Medicaid regulations and enjoys a good working relationship with counsel and caseworkers for the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. She is certified to appear before the United States Board of Veterans’ Affairs to represent veterans and their spouses in claims for veterans’ pension benefits.    

Kim is a member of Planned Giving Council for Hospice and Community Care. She is a past member of the boards of Excentia, Hospice of Lancaster County, No Longer Alone Ministries, S. June Smith Center, and National Wild Turkey Federation, Southern End Strutters Chapter. Kim is a founding member and former secretary of the Manor Softball board.

Born and raised in southern Lancaster County, Kim is active in many community organizations including Penn Manor sports softball and wrestling booster clubs and Chestnut Level Presbyterian Church. She resides in Holtwood with her husband and two children. 

Did you know?  During high school, college, and law school Kim waitressed at Valley View Restaurant, and today she serves as clients many of the people she served as restaurant patrons years ago.
